MRA Racing Members: We are currently having difficulty getting accurate
scoring results posted, as there are members of the racing community that are
not yet registered for the season. Perhaps our ‘going green’ this
year made you forget to send us some green, but there are several issues that
are triggered by the number of registered participants in each class. Each
time someone comes in as a late entrant, it means that previous races may need
to be rescored. Therefore – LAST CALL! If you wish to be scored for
any races in the first series, as well as for the rest of the summer
(including the NOOD Race Week), you MUST have your paperwork and fees to MRA
by Wednesday, June 24th! The Marblehead Racing Association
(MRA) was established in 1969 by the Boston, Corinthian and Eastern Yacht
Clubs to coordinate and foster One Design Racing in the Marblehead area. Its
racing program encourages the development of competitive racing skills at all
levels, sportsmanship, and the highest levels of competence in race
management. Racing is scheduled several series over many weekends for the ten
local classes from May to September each year. The highlight MRA Regatta is Marblehead Race
Week, which was established in 1889. In recent years the senior divisions
have been incorporated with the National Offshore One Design (NOOD) Regatta
for a unique and exciting event. In conjunction with the Junior Division,
typically attracts upwards of 200 boats. Sperry
Top-Sider NOOD Regatta @ Race Week will be held from July 23-26,
2009. Many other races and events occur throughout the
summer. Boston YC hosts the Jackson Cup Team
Racing and the Prince of
Wales Area Quarter-Finals,
Eastern YC hosts the 505 Spring Regatta and a Team Racing Series,
Corinthian YC hosts the Etchells Northeast Championship and the J/24
Northeast Regionals, while the combination of the Pleon / Boston / Corinthian
/ Eastern Yacht Club host the Chubb
US Sailing Jr Championship in August.
