Dear MRA Members:

Provided below is a table showing the MRA fee structure for 2016, reflecting an increase of $20. The increase is necessary because: (1) membership, our sole source of income, over the past few years has gradually declined and (2) expenses have generally gone up. The MRA has been absorbing the rising costs, such as the increased fees charged to MRA by NOOD for Race Week, resulting in our operating at a loss for the past two years. This trend is clearly unsustainable, so we have to make adjustments.

Additionally, the new structure makes fees more equitable across all classes. Over the past several years, reduced fees were extended to fleets that were in development stage. Participation statistics tell us that those fleets are racing on a regular basis and should be paying their full share of the costs. Only the J-105 fleet continues to pay a reduced fee because of their limited MRA race activity. They race three MRA days and Race Week, as opposed to the usual eighteen MRA days plus Race Week.

At a base fee of $325, for a full season schedule plus NOOD at Marblehead Race Week, it’s still a lot of bang for your racing dollar. Additionally, in 2016 there will be no change in our policy with regard to the number of race lines scheduled for each race day.
