New colored sails debut at the Jackson Cup
May 9, 2010

The new Marblehead harbor team racing sails made their debut at the Jackson Cup this year. During the winter the Boston, Corinthian and Eastern Yacht Clubs collaborated in ordering a set of  mainsails to be used in team racing events in the harbor. Having a dedicated set of sails provides more uniformity of equipment and the colored sails make it more visually interesting for spectators.

The mains were designed and built at Doyle Sailmakers, who used a square-weave dacron so that the cloth would last longer. They were also cut slightly differently from the standard Sonar main, to help the boats accelerate faster for team racing maneuvers.
