2012 MRA Registration is open!
April 5, 2012

Dear MRA Sailors:

We are all looking forward to the 2012 season of one design racing in Marblehead. The mild winter has made us even more impatient than normal to get back on the water! Our first racing will be on Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, really not that far off. And this year, MRA sailors have been invited to join PHRF racers at the BYC on Saturday May 26 after racing, following their Memorial Day Regatta.  Details will be on the MRA web site, www.mheadrace.org.

That provides a good segue to our next topic. The MRA committee wrestled over the off-season about the role of MRA. We determined that our function is to provide the best one design racing possible. That's it, at least for now. That might include training and seminars, but we will not be hosting an awards dinner in 2012. We will order all trophies as usual, but your fleet captains will be responsible for getting them to you.

However, we recognize the importance of the social aspects of sailing. All MRA participants are welcome at any of the yacht clubs after racing for post racing (ahem) discussions. The Corinthian and Eastern Yacht Clubs offer either cash bars after racing on Saturdays, or sell drink tickets at the front desks. We will do our best to share this information, and to encourage all one design racers to visit any of the clubs on a weekly basis.

We are also hoping to make the MRA website a more useful and engaging tool for members. We will be reaching out to the fleets for weekly wrap ups, and to individuals for photos that can be posted and shared. We now have a Facebook page and will be using Twitter to communicate during the season. So like us and follow us now!

And finally, registration is now open. Fee includes Marblehead Race Week, although a separate registration form is required by NOOD.  Please note that the registration deadline is May 5th. Avoid a late registration fee of $75 by getting your information in now! And remember, you cannot enroll with US Sailing or Mass Bay through MRA if your registration is submitted after May 5, 2012.

Fees will remain the same as they were in 2011, and your MRA registration includes NOOD registration fees (Don't forget to register for NOOD separately online).

Thank you so much for your support of and participation in one design racing in Marblehead. We look forward to seeing you on the water in a few short weeks.

Sincerely,

Cheryl Byrne
